Rips, tears, bodies – reconfigured and remade. How to draw how that feels? Idealised and monstrous. Ageing. Parts removed or added. Paper scraps and graphite scratchings.
This drawing is a study for a new series of drawings I am working on. I started by ripping up a reproduction of a Renoir painting. The Renoir work depicted young women, naked, frolicking in water. I wanted to try and find another shape for them – a body that I could relate to. Drawing felt like a possible way to map out that form.
